#2020Census

California Census

Why is it important?

Every 10 years, the census counts EVERYONE living in the U.S. - regardless of age, race/ethnicity or citizenship status.

Being counted helps ensure the best possible future for yourself, your children and your family.

It influences how much money your community will get for important things like schools, hospitals, affordable housing and job programs.

Representation is based on population. The census directly affects how many elected officials your community will send to Washington D.C.

The Census is Safe and Easy

Your information is private. It is illegal for anyone to share it and there are laws against it.

The Census Bureau can only use your response to create information about the general population including the number of people that live in your city and statistics based on age, gender, and race.

You can complete the census by mail, phone, or online. A postcard will be mailed out in March of 2020 with more information on how to fill out the census.

There is no citizenship question.

Everyone means EVERY ONE

Children 0-5 are the most under-counted population. By counting them, you are doing your part to create a better future for your family and your community.

The census helps decide how much money your county will get for:

• Schools
• Child Care
• Meal Programs
• Affordable Housing

It is important that you count everyone living with you on your census form, no matter their age or citizenship status. If they live in your household, they count!
