Parent Café Experience

Welcome

In the early 1970s, Resource & Referral (R&R) agencies began their work as a way to help parents find child care in the community. Over time, R&Rs across the state have engaged families in a number of meaningful ways with some already providing Parent Cafés for years and others thinking about it but not yet started.

In early 2019, the California Department of Education (CDE) was awarded funding from the United States Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) to accomplish a number of tasks including family engagement. CDE decided that the state’s R&R agencies had the bandwidth and capability to deliver training that incorporates the Strengthening Families Five Protective Factors and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Learn the Signs. Act Early. into the Parent Café model.

CCRC then created a hub and spoke training delivery model with 11 hubs providing training to local R&Rs in a prescribed geographic region.

Home Visitation

Home Visiting

CCRC's Home Visiting program is a First 5 funded initiative directly linked to Welcome Baby which is active in 14 Best Start Communities throughout Los Angeles County.  To participate in our Home Visiting program, families must live within the Best Start community boundaries of Pacoima, Panorama City, Palmdale and Lancaster. Families must be referred to us from the Welcome Baby program - there are no self-referrals.

Our Home Visiting program utilizes the Parents As Teachers (PAT) curriculum whose mission is to provide the information, support and encouragement parents need to help their children develop optimally during the crucial early years of life.  Each enrolled family will receive at least two home visits each month for up to five years from a certified parent educator who provides support and information that is specific to your child’s age. Topics include:

  • Tips and activities that will help your baby grow
  • What to expect from your child as he/she gets older
  • Ways to support and encourage your baby's growth and development
  • Health & wellness screenings

Participating families will also have an opportunity to meet with other parents once a month during Group Connections. These meetings encourage parents to share parenting ideas, experiences and concerns.

For more information, please contact our Resource & Referral Department at 818-717-1000.
