Kids home from school? Keep them entertained & educated with these resources!

You’re homebound and we get it. It can be daunting having to plan around working from a house full of little ones who are also home from school. That’s why we compiled the following list of resources and activities you can use today to educate and entertain your family.

This list will continue to grow – check back every few days to see what’s new!

LeVar Burton is taking the majority of us back to our childhoods by starting a new story-reading series launching on Twitter on Friday April 3rd. “LeVar Burton Reads” offers different sessions: Children’s stories will take place on Mondays at 9 AM, Young-Adult selections will be on Wednesdays at 3PM and Fridays at 6 PM are for Adults.

Harry Potter at Home: J.K. Rowling made available a collection of activities that you can enjoy with your child with Harry Potter at Home. From craft videos, quizzes, puzzles and more, you can immerse yourself in Hogwarts and the wizarding world. Additionally, you can listen to the Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone audiobook for free in six different languages!  

Goodnight with Dolly: Dolly Parton, the “Book Lady”, is reading Imagination Library bedtime stories to children in an effort to further inspire a love of books in children! This 10-week special YouTube series includes a selection of stories that are appropriate content at this moment in time starting with “The Little Engine That Could”. Epic Live! – is offering free, fun classes for your students to help you include at-home learning programs. You can tune in each week on Facebook every Wednesday & Friday at 1 PST and catch up on all of their episodes on their blog!

Sesame Street in Communities: Parents and Child Care Providers! Sesame Street offers a multitude of activities, storybooks, videos, and trainings on their website. They tackle a variety of subjects from Handwashing to Helping Children Handle Change.

Los Angeles Public Library: Explore everything your library card can do today! You can read eBooks, listen to audiobooks, stream select movies, tv shows, music, and more! You can access these and more 24/7 – all you need is your library card number and pin.

PBS AT-Home Learning: The learning can continue at home thanks to a partnership between Los Angeles Unified, PBS Socal | KCET and KLCS-TV who are providing free educational resources to help support learning during school closures. You can find a full lineup separated by Grades Pre-K – 3, Grades PreK-12, and Grades 9-12.

Virtual Museum Tours! Travel + Leisure have put together a number of renowned international museums that are offering virtual tours and exhibits. Some of these include: The British Museum, The Getty Museum, National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C. and more!

Be informed because #2020Counts: 2020 is an important year and we want to make sure your family’s voice is heard. Share the importance of being counted with your little ones today. Make sure to complete the 2020 Census and after that register to vote for the upcoming US Presidential General Election.

#SaveWithStories!: In an effort to bring a bit of joy to children around the world – and a little break for their parents – a number of celebrity parents are holding story time sessions on social media. For example, on Instagram, visit @SaveWithStories where Jennifer Garner, Natalie Portman, Reese Witherspoon have read a story to their audience. This project is a partnership between Save The Children and No Kid Hungry.
