Summer Meals: Free Food, Friends, and Fun!
The USDA Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) provides an excellent opportunity for youth 1-18 years of age to receive a free lunch, socialize with friends, and participate in games, crafts, etc. at many sites throughout the county. This program helps to provide meals when school is out to many who may otherwise go hungry. Of the 194,000 children in the county, who receive free or reduced meals during the school year, only 5% (or less than 10,000 children) actually participate in the summer meals program.
Only 5% of those participating in free/reduced meals during the school year were served in the summer
Who can participate?: All youth ages 1-18, no paperwork, no cost, no qualifications
When does it start?: Most sites open when school is out for the summer and typically operate Monday through Friday
Where are the sites?: Sites include schools, parks, community centers, churches, and more. Call 2-1-1 to find the nearest meal site
What can you do?: Encourage youth, parents, and caregivers to visit summer meal sites and spread the word!
