THE END-OF-THE-YEAR PARENT SURVEY
To conduct the Head Start program evaluation, the Research Department at the Child Care Resource Center (CCRC) distributed a total of 1,374 End-of-the-Year Surveys to parents at its 17 Head Start Centers. Based on the number of Spanish-speaking and English-speaking children at each Head Start Center classroom, the Research Department created a distribution list containing the name and primary language of each child. The parents’ primary language determined whether the parent received a survey in English or Spanish. Slightly more Spanish surveys (748) were distributed than English surveys (626). See Figures 35 and 36 in the Appendix for copies of the surveys.
The Research Department coordinated the content, formatting, and printing of the surveys. Surveys were organized by Head Start Center and classroom. Teachers at each Head Start Center got a packet of surveys for their students and ensured parents received and returned the surveys.
The Research Department received 896 completed surveys, resulting in a 65.2% return rate. Slightly more Spanish-speaking parents returned their survey (69.4%) than English-speaking parents (60.2%).
Table 1 summarizes the number of surveys distributed and returned as well as the response rate for each Head Start Center.
