Of 153 parents who needed child care, 151 responded to questions about the specific type of child care they needed. As reported last year in the 2012-2013 End-of-the-Year Parent Survey, parents this year also indicated a greater need for child care for their child in the Head Start program than for another child in the family. This year, of the 151 respondents, 58.8% indicated that they needed child care exclusively for their Head Start child, while three parents (2.0%) reported that they needed child care only for another child in the family. Similar to the 2012- 2013 findings in which 35.3% of parents reported this need, this year 39.2% of parents needed child care for their Head Start child and another child in the family.
Child care for a Head Start child was needed by 58.9% of English-speaking parents who responded to this question. Furthermore, 25.2% of English-speaking parents indicated a need for child care for another child in the family. Of 60 Spanish-speaking parents 35.8% reported that they needed child care for a Head Start child while 15.9% indicated a need for child care for another child in the family. Chart 3 compares the need for child care among English-speaking parents and Spanish-speaking parents. Chart 3 also highlights a greater need for child care for the Head Start child than for another child in the family.
