Child Care Now or in the Next Six Months: The Most Needed Type of Child Care
Parents who took the survey identified the need for child care now or in the next six months as the type of child care most needed for both their Head Start child and another child in the family. Of the 151 parents who provided information about their specific child care needs, more than half (58.9%) needed child care now or in the next six months. This finding differs from the 2012- 2013 program year in which child care for part of the day was the most needed type of child care reported by parents. Parents further indicated a greater need for child care now or in the next six months for their Head Start child (54.3%) than for another child in their family (23.8%). See Chart 5 for a comparison of the type of child care need between a Head Start child and another child in the family.
CHART 5: Type of child care need by Head Start child and another child in the family
Chart 6 illustrates the child care needs now or in the next six months among English and Spanish-speaking parents. The chart demonstrates a greater need for this type of child care among Spanish-speaking parents. Child care now or in the next six months is also most needed for a Head Start child than for another child in the family.
