CHART 8: Percentage of English and Spanish-speaking parents who sought ER care for their HS child by condition
Head Start staff may be interested in taking note of the conditions that affected the children at their Head Start Centers. As highlighted in Chart 9, Sepulveda was the Head Start Center with the greatest percentage of parents (14.7%) who reported that they took their child to the ER to get treated for a fever.
Compared to other Head Start Centers, more parents from Cohasset indicated that they had sought treatment at an ER for their child in the last 12 months (30.4%). Additionally, when compared to respondents from all other centers, Cohasset had the greatest percentage of parents who sought treatment for their child’s stomach-related illness. Furthermore, Miguel Montes was the Head Start Center with the greatest percentage of parents reporting that they sought treatment for their child at an ER for more than one medical condition. Parents from Miguel Montes indicated that they took their child to the ER because of a cough (18.2%) the flu (12.2%) and an infection (15.2%). Table 9 in the Appendix illustrates these results and provides more detailed information for each Head Start Center.

What I liked the most [about the Head Start program] was that the children were taught to create a hygiene routine, washing their hands and teeth.
