Smiles radiated throughout the different spaces of CCRC’s Holiday Book and Toy Drive as children and families selected their items on Saturday. Thanks to gracious donors and sponsors, hundreds of families will have a holiday to remember.
“Right now around this time, it’s very hard so any help I can get I look forward to,” said Christopher, a father of two. “My boys got a smile on their faces, it makes me happy because it’s kind of hard living in California, especially this time of year. So we’re really grateful to have a place like this. Christmas is next week and I’m working every day but it would’ve been a challenge.”
Christopher and his two sons joined the more than 490 families with 1,300 children in taking home clothes, stocking stuffers, an age-appropriate book and toy across our four events in the San Fernando and Antelope Valleys and San Bernardino. One facet of the event was the Adopt a Family program, which allowed donors to “adopt” a family and provide them directly with gifts and necessities.
“We came in today with the Adopt a Family program and got really nice Christmas gifts,” said one mother. “It’s really helpful during this time. I do get child care assistance from CCRC – it helps me a lot, helps me go to work without being stressed out about who will watch my kids.”
Another mother said the holiday drive helped her family after a tough year recovering from the pandemic.
“It’s helpful for a lot of families who are struggling, which is common due to the pandemic,” said Brianne. “I’m grateful and thankful to be able to be part of this and give my children something this time of year.”
All families who participated in the holiday drive are active in CCRC programs.
“I’ve been with CCRC for a couple years now, they’ve helped me with my daughter’s child care,” said Gilda. “Today’s program helped me receive Christmas gifts for my daughter and it’s pretty amazing how they’re helping families out.”
CCRC would like to thank all those who supported our various fundraising events throughout the year and those who opted to adopt a family. A special thank you to our business sponsors:
