Craft: Love bugs abound for Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day has been celebrated for over 1,500 years! Since it’s beginnings, a number of different mythologies related to love have been passed through the generations. One of those myths is about the love bug, whose kiss can make a person fall in love. In this craft, children use their handprints and decorations to create their own love bug. This craft is best for children age 3 and up.

**An adult can cut out hearts from construction paper for children to use.

Supplies: Paper plates, non-toxic paint, heart cut outs, glitter, markers, and glue.

Step 1: Help the child paint the palm of their hand with a color of paint, then press down on the center of a paper plate. Now wash and dry hands.

Step 2: Once the hand print is dry, the child can glue a heart to each side of the hand for wings.

Step 3: Draw on antennas with the marker and add other personalized touches, such as glitter or polka dots.

The love bug can be stuck on the refrigerator with a magnet or a string can be threaded through a small hole made in the top of the plate, which allows it to be hung.
