Head Start Birth to Five partners with LA Mission College to offer a pre-apprentice opportunity for Head Start parents. The Parent Apprenticeship Program is a two-year pilot program for Head Start parents interested in a career in early childhood education. The cohort designed program seeks to take parents and help them obtain their foundational preschool teacher permit by enrolling them in a 4-course college series that meets the California state requirements. Parents in the cohort program receive college success workshops designed to build skills for studying, test taking, and notetaking. In addition, a professional development coach meets with them once a month to ensure all barriers to success are addressed. The PAP pilot (Cohort I) is expected to end Spring 2021 with apprenticeship placement beginning in August of the same year.
